Tibet has remained for long years as one of the most mysterious places on earth. It has all the practices and traditions that may appear to be somewhat odd and unique to others, especially those who are not Tibetans. Well, one of the most well-known practices in Tibet that is considered by many as mysterious is the so-called “Five Tibetan Rejuvenation Rites”.

The Tibet rejuvenation rites are in the most basic a set of physical and spiritual exercises that are proven to rejuvenate the mind, body and spirit. These rites have already been practiced by those who are staying and working in monasteries, and those who practice them are said to obtain a life that is so vigorous and youthful.

The five Tibet rejuvenation rites were first publicized by an orphan from the Midwestern United States named Peter Kelder. He published the rites in 1939 and claimed to share the stories of travel by a retired army colonel of Britain whom he met in southern California. The Tibet rejuvenation rites were

not actually supported by the scholars and religious leaders in Tibet, but there are some westerners who believed and considered the five Tibet rejuvenation rites as one form of yoga, which by origin comes from India. It is for this reason actually that the five Tibet rejuvenation rites are performed and promoted widely in Western countries.

But what actually are included in the five Tibet rejuvenation rites? What are these five rites?

According to several resources, the five Tibet rejuvenation rites are composed of the following exercises: clockwise whirling, head and leg raises, camel, tabletop, up and down dog, and uddyana bandha abdominal breathing exercise. Note that I have mentioned these Tibet rejuvenation rites according to their order, the clockwise whirling being the first rite and the uddyana bandha as the fifth rite.

There are certain variations, however, to these exercises. The variations differ according to schools practicing the rites. And, the variations occur for the reason that each school is adding

Speaking of schools, it is worth knowing that the five Tibet rejuvenation rites developed by Kelder are considered by a number of schools as highly beneficial for the mind, body and spirit. According to several claims, the rites can yield positive medical effects, including improved eyesight, potency, memory, hair growth, and a lot more. It is even claimed to be an effective anti-aging solution. All of these medical benefits are claimed believing that by practicing the five Tibet rejuvenation rites, an increased stimulation will occur in the body. Nevertheless, there is still no ground scientific evidence to prove these medical claims. The five Tibet rejuvenation rites are still under controversy even until these days.
