the successive Dalai Lamas are housed especially during winter in the latter half of the 18th century. A 13-storey citadel with more than 1,000 rooms, it stands like a fortress on a pedestal. Inside this majestic place is a rich home of chapels and halls reflecting the serenity of Buddhist faith. In the outskirts of the holy city are the 15th century monasteries; west of Lhasa, has the largest monastery in the world, which is the Drepung Monastery, where 10,000 monks reside and north of Lhasa is where one of the prettiest monasteries is sitting, the Sera Monastery. And lastly, the Norbulingka or “Jewel Park”, which is the beautiful summer palace of the Dalai Lamas, situated on a richly decorated garden.
